Why is it that most movies set in LA are about crime and terrible people?
I always wonder why most movies set in Los Angeles generally center around gangstas, drug lords, organized crime, lots of violence, and psychos. The other day I saw this movie called Harsh Times, with Christian Bale, and it was about this ex-army guy who’s basically psychotic..he drives around LA beating people up,stealing, acting like a monster. Heat and Collateral both feature organized crime in LA very prominently. Just last night, I saw a movie called Alpha Dog which was based on a true story about a wannabe drug kingpin in LA who ended up killing an innocent kid for no good reason. Anyway, it seems like all the movies I see about people living in LA are about bad people (spoiled, rich, screwed up, ghetto, psychotic) who do terrible things to each other or for a living. Why is this the case? Is this a good representation of LA life? Are there any people in LA who are just normal people who go to work and spend time with their families?
The problem is….If they had a movie about a calm, serene, church going sober family children struggling to get through graduate school…would you watch it?
