beginning acting exercises

Acting exercises ideas? In particular, connecting with the character?
I am trying develop an acting technique based off the principle that “what makes a really good actor is the ability to live so truthfully under the given imaginary circumstances that all emotions come naturally.”
However, I am struggling to think of ways that I could help people harness and improve that quality within themselves.
How does one begin to feel connected to the character? So much so that they feel what the character feels?
P.S: I don’t believe in emotion memory unless it is for the purpose of developing a character or researching it.
Discover what the character wants. Everything else flows from that. What do you want? Who can you get it from? What obstacles are in your way, and how can you get around them?
Answer those, applying the given circumstances, and the feelings will follow. You can’t just will yourself to feel something; play the intentions, and the feelings will come.
PS: I agree, emotion memory is not a performance technique. And it can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
